I have two dogs.  One of them -- Katherine -- is a very cunning food thief.  While she knows better than to try and steal something I am eating at the time, she is adept at stealing food while I am cooking.

On more than one occasion, I cut up tomatoes to make a caprese salad.  I turn my back, or walk away for a second only to find that she stole the tomato while I was gone.

what food?

She once stole a container of shelled lychee nuts from high ontop of a kitchen counter.  I walked into the living room to find the empty box, the shells and the seeds to the lychees all over the floor.  Now, they take some work to peel, so this one was a particularly impressive feat.

I have a friend that I get together with on occasion.  She and I tend to compete when it comes to preparing food and baked goods.  So for a holiday gathering, I planned to make an angel food cake from scratch.  Now, this light, delicate cake is not a simple one to make.  After two hours of pouring love and effort into making this cake "just right," I pulled it from the oven and it appeared to be perfect.  I was so proud of my self.  Surely I had outdone my friend this time.  I set the cake on a high shelf to cool and went about my business.  When I returned to the kitchen, I found both my dogs standing on the kitchen table, eating my cake off the high shelf.  I screamed!  I nearly killed them.

Now, this same tomato-stealing dog also likes to sleep with my shoes.  She doesn't hurt them.  She only cuddles up with them.  Many a morning I walk all around the house searching for my missing shoes.
